Critics Torch Trump’s New DOJ Building Stunt As A Banner Day For Authoritarianism

Big Donald is now watching you from the Department of Justice building. And critics are furious. On Thursday, a large banner featuring the face of President Donald Trump was hung over an entrance to the Justice Department building in Washington, D.C. “MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN,” it read below the image of Trump. Photos of the banner went viral on social media, where critics said it gave off “1930s Germany vibes,” slammed it as “so embarrassing” and a display of authoritarianism. MS NOW justice and intelligence correspondent Ken Dilanian wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that it was “a stunning confirmation of the grim reality, which is that Donald Trump has seized control of the once independent Justice Department and is using it to pursue his political objectives — including trying to punish his perceived enemies.” It’s “exactly what his supporters baselessly accused the previous administration of doing,” he added. Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) quipped that “nothing says Justice is Blind like hanging a Dear Leader Banner at DOJ…” Republican strategist Sarah Longwell wrote: “Can’t imagine why people call him a fascist.” And The Atlantic’s David Frum, a former speechwriter for former President George W. Bush, said: “The Trump DoJ is a pure creature of presidential whim, retribution, and cover-up ― so this banner has the virtue of candor at least.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
