Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash in Holly Oak that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old woman from Newark.

On Feb. 20 at about 8:55 p.m., a Volvo truck-tractor pulling a trailer loaded with cars was driving south on I-95 south of Harvey Road when a Chrysler 200 driving north crossed the grass median and collided head-on with the Volvo.

The 19-year-old Chrysler driver wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. She was taken to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries, police said. Her name is being withheld until family is notified.

The driver of the Volvo, a 34-year-old man from New York, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The interstate was closed for approximately six hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

It is unknown why the Chrysler driver crossed the center median, and the crash is still being investigated, according to police.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video should contact Cpl. K. Oakes at 302-365-8483. Information can also be shared by private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police account or by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
