Watching DIY YouTube channels, TikToks, and TV shows can be a bit discouraging if you've never held a drill before. But there are still TONS of manageable, easy (yes, really!) projects you can handle if your confidence in your home improvement skills is severely lacking. There are little tweaks you can make throughout your home, including doubling a closet rod's storage capabilities, installing a built-in night-light on an oft-used power outlet, and even zhuzhing up your old stained couch with a velvet slipcover that might make your spouse think you bought a new piece of furniture. Joke's on them! Read on for some extremely realistic DIY inspo. Promising review: "Easy to install. Lights provide ample lighting; USB allows lights to be a standalone fixture without tying up another wall socket. The USB interface also acts to turn the lights on and off with the TV. Backlighting also seems to make the screen seem sharper." —Shaun Get it from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in sizes S–XXL). Note that this ships with a $35+ order. Promising review: "Great shoe holder. Love these for shoe storage as they are sturdy and tall enough for chunky shoes." —Janet Promising review: "Where do I start? I absolutely LOVE this product. I wanted to replace our bathroom mirror, but due to the size, it would have cost a lot! I came across this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. The application process was super easy and applied without bubbles as long as you go slow and rub it down as you go. I kid you not. It looks like wood and feels like it, too! You can feel and see the 'wood grain.' It’s absolutely stunning and looks like I bought a whole new mirror." —Taylor Get it from Amazon for $6.98+ (available in two sizes). Promising review: "I like this so much that I actually just ordered another one for under the bathroom sink. Not only did it tidy the clutter and make items easier to find at first glance, but also made it possible for me to store another few items below the sink, including the spray cleaners I use for my countertops. I didn't configure it around pipes (as I see can be done), but actually used the flexible shelving options to place taller or larger items directly on the floor of my under-sink storage — rather than on the lowest shelf (see last photo) — to maximize my storage possibilities and keep regularly used items accessible. I also didn't fully extend the shelving, just as suggested by the manufacturer for stability purposes ... and still found it offered ample storage. Easy to assemble, with some flexibility for shelf height and placement — highly recommend!" —Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $24.87+ (available in three finishes). Promising review: "This bracket is awesome and was extremely easy to install. We were able to hang curtains over our vertical blinds in just a few minutes and didn't even need any tools. Great product!!!" —Amazon Customer Get a set of two from Amazon for $18.95 (also available in brown, black, gold, and brass, and also available in inside-mount brackets). Promising review: "So easy to set up! All you do is peel tape and adhere to a CLEAN and DRY door. Also looks great, I don't even notice it. I had a huge gap under my door. I could smell and hear everything from the hallway. Smells, drafts, and sound all are less of an issue now." —Brit B. Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in four colors). Promising review: "I can't believe how well Old English works! I recently purchased a home where a dog previously lived and had horribly scratched the woodwork. I thought I may have to sand and refinish the woodwork around two doors. Old English saved me a lot of work!" —Behold Behold! Get it from Amazon for $4.82 (also available in a three-pack). Enhances the natural beauty and depth of grain on finished *and* unfinished wood. For use on antiques, dining tables, kitchen cabinets, wood doors and trim, etc. Promising review: "Very impressed so far. Just tried this stuff on one of our kitchen cabinets and it really did a nice job. The cabinets are 15-year-old cherry-stained hard work cabinets (oak, maybe?) and are scratched deeply in certain parts from the previous owner's dogs. Then, 20 minutes after applying this product and wiping it off, I can't complain at all about the results. It looks great in the picture, and even better in real life where you are not focusing on staring at imperfections. In addition to helping tremendously with the blemishes, it also leaves a nice glossy shine on the cabinets, making them look clean and fresh (not over the top glossy and fake). For the minimal price, I can't complain at all. Finally, I used about 1/3 of an ounce to do the 36-inch double base cabinets and the 36 inches wide drawer, so I believe the 16-oz bottle will last quite a while." —Patrick Gallagher Get it from Amazon for $10.88 (also available in a six-pack). Promising review: "I can’t believe how well these work! Much better than I was expecting. I just had my home interior painted and the painters damaged a fiberboard medicine cabinet when they removed the masking tape. It ripped off the fake wood veneer. These markers completely filled in the ugly spots and the colors blended well. I love that it appears to have some clear coat in it too as it dries with a slight shine that makes it look more like wood stain rather than marker. I also used them to stain wood filler in two spots in my maple kitchen cabinets where a previous home owner had hung a paper towel holder and I really struggle to see the hole! It looks fantastic. I highly recommend this set. It’s a good value and works very well." —Shane Promising review: "Rather than ditching furniture into a landfill, which is bad for the environment and one's pocketbook, this product allows you to give new life to existing furniture. Between the Soto touchup and new handles, my entertainment center looks like new....for less than $35. If you can use liquid paper, you can use this. I just ordered another bottle for porcelain. This is a fantastic product. You will love it!" —LexiNYC Get it from Amazon for $12.95+ (available in two sizes, 24 colors, and three-packs). Note that this ships with a $35+ order. Some "off-label" uses, according to reviewers, include organizing cutting boards, pan lids, laptops and tablets, planners and journals, notebooks, files, baby board books, sheets of glass, and much more! Promising review: "The Osbit plate holder is much more than a plate organizer. I used to organize plates in my cabinets so it is easier to retrieve plates because stacking different-sized plates can cause chips. I also use one for pot lids and another one for mail sorting. It is so versatile." —Anonymous It includes a remote that can adjust the brightness. Promising review: "This is a wonderful product; just what I wanted. It's super easy to install, and I love that it breaks off into sections so you don’t have any hanging over to hide. The remote is awesome, and there are lots of brightness settings. I’m going to use these everywhere!" —Queen Halloween Get the six-piece kit from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in two sizes and three light colors). These have a built-in magnet that'll stick on most metals, or you can use the included adhesive tape to tape them onto an existing surface. Promising review: "These lights are so worth it. I have a closet with no light in it, and I installed these in maybe two minutes flat, and it has completely fixed my disdain for the previously dark and disorganized closet. If you think you need these, you probably do." —HD Get it from Amazon for $25.19+ (available in two sizes and in warm or white light). Promising review: "These lights were just the thing to finish off our new yard and show pathway edges during the night. Worked right out of the box but I charged for a day in the sun before placing them. Work great and very happy with them." —Joseph H. Get eight from Amazon for $39.98+ (available in three colors). And if you're especially petty, you can copy my move of saving said switch plates with a piece of marked duct tape so you know where you put 'em when you leave. This was one of the first things I did in my current apartment, thus rendering the switch plates barely noticeable — which is how I like them! Get a 10-pack of plates for plugged outlets for $8.29+ (available in four styles and 11 colors) and a variety of switch plates from Amazon. FYI, it installs like a regular outlet cover. Of course except with the wonderful shelf. Can also be installed so the shelf is below the outlet. Promising review: "I absolutely love this thing! I have much less clutter on my sink thanks to this. If there's anyone not sure if it will fit due to an object, all you need is 1.25 inches of space between the edge of your existing outlet plate and the piece of furniture. I have a GFCI with a standard wall plate." —Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $16.99+ (available in four colors and in multipacks). Promising review: "I. AM. Shook! The previous tenant kept this apartment NASTY. I moved in the day he moved out and was scrubbing this nasty drain for months to no avail. I let this sit for an hour and came back just to peek and wow. The difference is crazy. Now I feel better about taking baths in my own home. Amazing. 9/10 because the instructions says rub lightly. I tried that way first and almost thought it was a dub (Meaning it wouldn’t work lol) But it definitely worked after letting it sit." —Julia R. Promising review: "I have a weird skinny window in my house where no normal window covering works. People walking on our community trail can see up into our upstairs bathroom when the light is on and it's dark outside. Not a good plan at all. So I used this window film and cut different-sized circles and placed then on this window to interrupt the view into the house. Worked perfectly! Very easy to use." —Marsgard Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in 14 sizes and four colors/patterns). OK so the color of the metal parts of your outdoor furniture is a small difference that's more of a medium-size project BUT way to get more bang for your buck with the stuff you already own! Get it from Amazon for $13.65+ (available in a variety of metallic colors). Reviewers note that using this may darken the leather, so keep that in mind! Promising review: "Excellent product! So happy I tried it! I wore kitchen gloves and smoothed a thin layer of the product all over the couch, instead of using the cloth. Went way faster and I didn’t waste product soaked up by the cloth." —Kristie Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in three sizes). Promising review: "OMG!!! It works!!! After having this toilet buildup I gave up on everything, but I saw that this product 'worked' and decided to give it a try... with a little elbow grease and some music blasting in the background I managed to remove it all!!! I can’t believe it. I’m so happy, I was so embarrassed when company came over and would see that, not no more... yay!!!" —Asdrubal Orantes Get it from Amazon for $13.75 (also available in multipacks). It's super quick to install, and one cartridge can last up to three months! Promising review: "This is an excellent invention for keeping the toliet bowl fresh without a tablet that harms the flush seal. I was frequently replacing the seals in the tank but with this setup the seals last and last." —Awesome Guy Promising review: "Living in Hawaii you have to select wise items that are weather-, salt-, and red dirt–proof, etc... In total I ordered 11 boxes to complete my yoga deck. I have a few left over to make steps on the back. Very pleased and happy. May order more for an outdoor shower project!" —Adazzle Promising review: "This is the second privacy screen I've purchased from Amazon. I have an area in my garden visible from the street. The screen hides all my gardening stuff (i.e. wheelbarrow, buckets, etc.). It truly looks like the real deal!!!" —soooz Get a roll from Amazon for $34.99+ (available in three roll sizes). Promising review: "We moved into our new home, and the shower had a really yellow grout. Cleaning didn’t do anything, and I saw this grout pen online. What a saver! Otherwise, I would have just hired someone to replace my shower. I used this grout pen, and my husband was so impressed :D The tip loses its shape fast, but just pull out the TIP AND FLIPPED IT OVER, and you’ll have a new tip." —jennifer Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in two sizes). Psst, as you can see above, this set also comes with a crumb catcher where your stovetop meets your countertop! Promising review: "I've been using the foil ones and while they do the job, they're not so nice to look at. I like that this is black so it matches the original color of the appliances, but more importantly I like that this has a larger surface area to catch the drips that the foil ones never could before. They're also trim to fit, so they get right up into each burner without leaving gaps where drips can burn where it's hardest to clean. Time will tell if they're as durable/reusable as they claim. If they are, then I'll try to trim two of the spares to fit the center large burner. Overall recommended." —Michael Get an 8-pack from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in three sizes and six colors). Promising review: "Repeat customer! I purchased one to organize the garden tools (rake, hoe, cultivator, shovel, etc.) in our garage and by alternating the tops of the tools up/down, was able to fit them neatly in the holder. Liked it so much, going to install another next to it for the other items. The hooks are a nice feature to hold our gloves and a simple plastic bag to hold things when needed." —Rob C. Get it from Amazon for $17.97 (available in four colors, a two-pack, and another style). Also, built-up lint is a fire hazard! Make this a part of your weekly cleaning routine. Promising review: "This brush is stiff but flexible enough to feed under my dryer's lint filter. Several weeks ago a trouble light came on that indicated the air flow in my dryer was becoming obstructed. I had the dryer vent and area under the lint filter cleaned. (Not much lint was pulled out, so maybe the dryer sensor gave a false alarm.) I felt a small investment in a brush such as this is better than paying for a future vent cleaning. I've been using it once a week and it picks up a little lint each time, but that's lint that won't have a chance to build up in the dryer vent!" —blueskys Get it from Amazon for $5.88 (also available in two- and three-packs). The kit includes a 10' vinyl seal and tube of silicone adhesive. Promising review: "I couldn't be more pleased with this product. It installed easily and firmly and stopped rainwater and rodents from entering my garage immediately. There was plenty of adhesive for the job and it worked great. I applied the adhesive to the rubber strip and then my wife helped me turn it over into place." —walleyeslayer Get it from Amazon for $28.95+ (available in three sizes). Promising review: "We had a 2005 truck parked on our paver driveway for years. The area in the photo was thick with oil leak residue. I tried several products that didn't make any difference. But with the "Pull It Out" product, the oil is gone! You can see the stark difference in the photo, with the area that was treated and the area that was not. This goes on as a liquid; it absorbs the oil from the bricks as it dries. Then I lightly scrub and hose it off, and voila! Gone! Even better, it's biodegradable!! I rarely post reviews for a product, but this product earned it. This is the best I have seen for taking leaked oil out of a driveway." —Robocop Get it from Amazon for $17.97+ (available in two sizes). Promising review: “We purchased this to fill some patches in our backyard that were damaged by our puppy. Works like a charm. The one caveat is that you really do have to water it a bit every day. Once it takes off though, it grows pretty quickly! Within one week of planting this, we had 1-inch long grass blades. One month later, all the patches are gone. Highly recommended!” —Jessica N. Made with a bamboo handle and powder-coated steel, it uses a simple lever system to made weeding easy. Promising review: "Oh my god, I friggin' love this tool. I bought this on a whim given we bought our first house and know nothing about caring for a yard. Boy has it come in handy. Our new house had a ton of weeds in the front yard and this tool helped me get most of them out in no time. In fact, the process of yanking out the weed was strangely satisfying! I don't think anyone can say that weeding is fun but this tool made it as close to fun as you can get, especially when you see a long root along with the weed you pulled." —JG macraYAYmacrame is an Indianapolis, Indiana-based shop that makes a variety of cool macrame accessories. Promising review: "Beautiful and functional! This is the perfect addition to our beachy kitchen. We spray painted the hooks matte black to match our other hardware. It’s so cute!" —Melissa Wilkes Get it from macraYAYmacrame on Etsy for $35. Promising review: "Great light strip. The motion sensor has a good range and then controls for time on and brightness are wonderful. The 3M tape on the back could be stronger, but for the price and motion sensor it is a great buy. Also we have this plugged into a smart outlet so that it only turns on during certain hours of the day. That plus the feature that is there is enough ambient light, the motion sensor doesn't trigger makes this on par with systems that are far more expensive. Works great with Google home as well because of the linked smart plug. Very happy with the purchase. Would be 4.5 stars just because of the tape not being sticky enough, but they do provide a second roll in the box, which helps." —AC Promising review: "Worked wonders! I spilled nail polish remover on my nightstand. This worked like magic! Just rub lightly with the cloth." —JMac Get it from Amazon for $5.49 (also available in a 12-pack). Snug Plugs is a small business that specializes in home improvement products. Promising review: "I saw Snug Plug on TikTok and immediately ordered them. I have outlets at home AND at work that I couldn't keep anything plugged into because they're so loose. Snug Plug quickly and easily solved that problem and now I can finally have a phone charger in my den. Yay! I highly recommend this product." —KSay Get a pack of 10 from Amazon for $10.99 (available in clear and glow-in-the-dark or a mixed pack). The 24-piece set includes 16 outlet sealers, 6 switch plates, and 2 decorative covers. Promising review: "They're cheap and easy to install. I've used these in apartments and in houses. They work both ways. Just unscrew the plate, slap one of these bad boys in, and screw the plate back in. Just be sure to not touch metal to metal or skin to metal. It's a good idea to flip the breaker to deactivate the outlets you're installing these on. Otherwise, you'll give yourself a nice jolt. Or three. You know how everyone tells you not to stick a fork into an outlet? The same principle applies here except your finger is the fork and you can't taste purple for a while. So do yourself the favor of flipping the breaker before installing these. Don't make the same mistake as I did. Once. Or maybe three times. I can't remember too good now." —Frequency Jones Get the 24-piece set from Amazon for $9.99. Promising review: "Cute and useful. It really does give a little privacy, it looks great with some plastic vines hanging on it." —Megan StoveShelf is a small business, and these shelves are built to last a lifetime. Promising review: "This is an excellent buy. The shelf helped me declutter my cabinet, and it is an awesome storage space for my more often used spices. It is sturdy, easily installed, and attractive. I recommend this shelf." —Pamella R. Get it from Amazon for $44.99 (available in six types and three sizes). Promising review: "This has been the best situation for organizing my recycling. I no longer have to deal with another bin on the floor." —Dora Promising review: "This holds a lot of utensils, freeing up space and making it super convenient for me. I’m about to order a few more. It looks amazing in my kitchen. Love love love!!!" —kimmy coe Get it from Amazon for $19.99 (available in a variety of lengths and wood types). Promising review: "I’ve been wanting to upgrade our garage door for a long time, and now I have no idea why I waited! The magnets are super strong. Purchased two sets but only used one set of 'handles,' I wasn’t a fan of how close I had to place each set next to each other with the narrow spacing on the door itself. Paired with the magnetic 'windows,' it looks like a brand-new door!" —MrsPirate Get them from Amazon for $18.99+ (available in several sets and variations). SnapPower is a small biz that specializes in unique and innovative lighting products. Promising review: "I ordered this after seeing it on TikTok. I’m very happy with this product!" —Miss. Harris "Game changer. When I get up, I don’t want to wake everyone up with flipping on lights and all. These provide plenty of walking through the house light. Super easy installation, too." —Monica Martinez Get it from Amazon for $23.98 (available in two outlet styles and two colors). Promising review: "It has doubled my closet space in my apartment where I can’t make any damage in terms of adding another permanent shelf — so this has been a perfect solution. It was easy to assemble and is sturdy. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now with no issue. Your closet has to be pretty high for this to work or else your shirts above are going to get caught on the hangers below and for my case, some of my shirts are dragging on the floor — just keep this in mind when you’re thinking about purchasing." —Alex Get it from Amazon for $18.87 (available in three colors). Just be sure to measure your existing pulls before ordering new ones to make sure the sizes match up! Promising review: "Can't beat the quality for the price! I ordered two of the large size for our live seat to try them out. I easily cut an inch off to have it fit with an Exacto knife. Easy to slide in, easy to close with my husbands help. The difference when sitting on the sofa is amazing. Firm and they feel like new cushions. I just ordered three more for the large sofa." —doris Get them on Amazon for $34.99+ per kit (available in two sizes; each kit fixes one cushion). Promising review: "I rent a furnished apartment with a grandma couch. I was covering it with a cute comforter for over a year, when I saw someone suggest this on Facebook. I love it. I got teal, and I’ve always wanted a velvet couch. I did not have extra money in my budget, but I definitely think it was worth it!
