The Trump administration tried to make Justin Trudeau eat his words on Sunday after the U.S. beat Canada in the gold medal hockey final at the Winter Olympics.

About a year ago, Canada’s hockey team defeated the Americans in the Four Nations Face-Off amid heightened hostilities prompted by President Donald Trump’s tariff menacing and threats to annex the country as the 51st state.

“You can’t take our country ― you can’t take our game,” Trudeau declared on social media.

The White House didn’t forget. After the Americans’ stunning overtime triumph over their northern rival in a far bigger game in Milan, Trump’s administration resurfaced Trudeau’s declaration with a photo of a bald eagle digging its claws into what is presumably a Canadian goose.

Trump called U.S. Olympic freestyle skier Hunter Hess a “real loser” for expressing “mixed emotions” about repping America. But the president went all in on applauding the hockey victory.

“THEY WON THE GOLD. WOW!” he wrote on Truth Social.
