A man has been charged with murdering a security guard at a shopping centre.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing at Centre:MK in Milton Keynes at about 17:10 GMT on Saturday.

Detectives have identified the victim as Gary Stanley, 52, who was from the town, and said he died at the scene despite "life-saving efforts".

Rory Wilson, 50, from Towcester in Northamptonshire, is due to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court on Monday accused of one count of murder and one count of possessing a knife in a public place.

Thames Valley Police said Wilson, of St Lawrence Road South, was previously known as Rikki Alexander Stewart.

A spokesperson said the victim's next of kin was being supported by family liaison officers.

"Our thoughts remain with the family at this extremely difficult time," they said.

Centre:MK said in a statement the shopping centre remained closed.

The Labour MP for Milton Keynes Central, Emily Darlington, said the news was a shock and she had always known the centre as a "very safe place"

She also urged people not to speculate online about the security guard's death.

A police spokesperson added: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation."
