‘My heart is broken’: Meridian restaurant and brewpub to close after decades

After more than two decades, goodbye beers will be poured Friday at The Ram Restaurant & Brewhouse in Meridian. The longtime community staple at 3272 E. Pine Ave. is closing at the end of the week. Its Treasure Valley sister operation, The Ram Restaurant & Brewery in Boise, remains open. Both locations are part of a family-owned regional chain headquartered in Lakewood, Washington. Part sports hangout, part brewpub, The Ram is the sort of wide-net concept that draws families, high school football fans and — back when craft IPAs were cool — even beer geeks. The Meridian Ram is rated 4 out of 5 stars on Google and 3.1 out of 5 on Yelp. Faced with the closure announcement on Facebook, commenters quickly expressed sorrow — and reminisced. “Noooooo! Best job I ever had! I made so many lifelong friends there,” wrote one. “My heart is broken,” added another. But the writing was on the wall. Last year, The Ram’s 6,456-square-foot building — and 1.45-acre property off Eagle Road — were put up for sale for $3,995,000. The Ram opened in January 2005, according to an Idaho Statesman article published then. It had followed the Ram in Boise, which debuted in 1996. In addition to the two Idaho locations, there are seven Ram restaurants in Washington and two in Oregon, according to the company’s website. Craving one last burger and brew at The Ram in Meridian? Hours are noon to 8 p.m. through Friday.
