El Paso sheriff's deputies make arrest in bloody road rage gang assault

El Paso County sheriff's deputies arrested a man accused in a group beating of a driver who was left covered in blood before his vehicle was stolen in a road rage confrontation earlier this year. Deputies arrested Cristian Garay, 20, on March 6 on a warrant for an aggravated robbery charge in connection with a road rage assault that occurred on Jan. 11 in Montana Vista, sheriff's spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release on Thursday, March 12. Crime: Driver accused of trying to run down people at El Paso park The driver, who was assaulted by several unknown persons, was taken to a hospital after deputies found him covered in blood on Jan. 11 at the intersection of Greg Drive and Desert Meadows Road, the Sheriff's Office stated. The Sheriff's Office stated that an investigation found that Garay was allegedly part of the group that attacked the driver and stole his vehicle. Crime: El Paso County man killed confronting teens about reckless UTV driving Garay was arrested without incident March 6 in the 3500 block of Gajeske Avenue, which is about a block away from where the victim was located by deputies, officials said. El Paso County Jail records show Garay was released from jail on March 9 after posting a $45,000 surety bond. Agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, along with Socorro police, served warrants in Socorro on Wednesday, March 11, during a joint operation, DEA spokesman Carlos Briano confirmed. DEA agents and police officers on Wednesday were spotted in the 9990 block of Alameda Avenue next to Moon Road on a block that houses the Valley Smoke Shop, which was the scene of a police standoff in an assault case last May. The DEA did not disclose if anyone was arrested, what may have been seized, nor further details because the investigation continues.
