Trump Slams NYT Journalist With Shocking Nickname, Threatens To Sue Her

President Donald Trump continued his series of attacks on female journalists Friday by coming up with a degrading nickname for New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman. In a Friday post on his Truth Social platform, the president slammed Haberman ― whom he deemed “Maggot Hagerman” ― and threatened to take legal action against her as part of his ongoing defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. “Maggot Hagerman, just another SLEAZEBAG writer for The Failing New York Times, insists on writing false stories about me, even though she fully knows and understands that the exact opposite of anything she says is usually the truth,” Trump wrote atop a photo of Haberman. “In any event, I’m thinking of adding Maggot, and some of her ‘associates,’ into my Florida based Lawsuit against The Times which, very happily, seems to be proceeding nicely,” he continued. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Haberman, a White House correspondent for the Times and a 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner, has previously been on the receiving end of social media insults and threats from Trump. In addition to her work at the newspaper, she’s also the author of the 2022 book “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America,” which includes multiple interviews with the president. It’s unclear why Haberman caught Trump’s attention this time, as her last article before the president’s post was published March 5 and focused on the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. However, the journalist appeared Thursday on CNN, where she and anchor Kaitlan Collins ― another of Trump’s frequent targets ― discussed the surge in U.S. gas and oil prices since the start of the Iran war last month. “This is not something that most of the people in his orbit right now are having an easy time messaging or solving, and you can see that every day,” Haberman said. After noting that many in Trump’s base would agree that “Iran is a threat to U.S. interests,” she added: “That’s different than whether voters are going to tolerate $4 gas over many weeks, especially when there’s ample video of the president criticizing President Biden for gas prices.” In recent months, Trump has ramped up his attacks on female journalists, particularly those who have questioned him about his relationship with the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. In February, he slammed Collins as the “worst reporter” and scolded her for “not smiling” on the job. And in November of last year, he attempted to silence Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey as she was pressing him about Epstein by calling her “piggy.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
