Stephen Colbert Pounces On Trump’s Awkward Comment About His Son Eric

Stephen Colbert zeroed in on an awkward Donald Trump comment about his son Eric Trump during Tuesday’s broadcast of “The Late Show.” Trump was speaking at the annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon on St. Patrick’s Day when he boasted about his golf course in Ireland, which is run by the Trump Organization, where Eric plays a key role. But as Colbert noted, Eric “caught a stray” from his dad during the address. The president said: “I love Ireland. In fact, we’re going to have the Irish Open at a property that happens to be owned by yours truly. But I have nothing to do with it. I own it, but I have not … I don’t even like to talk to my son.” While Trump was likely referring to his claim that he isn’t involved in his family business due to conflicts of interest, Colbert couldn’t resist. He jumped into character as Eric Trump and imagined him leaving a voicemail for his father: “Hello, Dad. Dad. Dad. It’s Eric again. I just want to let you know the golf course is going great but I did get caught in a sand trap. And the more I move, the more I sink. Please call me back. Again, this is Eric. E. R. I. Kuh.” Watch Colbert’s full monologue here: By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
