"She was literally just scraping it into fancy glass jars and selling it for a 400% markup to the local yoga studio."

"The next day, the hosts sent a nasty gram to every attendee, complaining that somebody’s kid had scribbled on the basement walls in marker, very aggressively guilting us for not watching our kids better. The neighbourhood erupted in negative vibes, many very upset about the tone of the email. It was the subject of many conversations for a long time. 

Cut to two summers later, some of the neighbours are hanging out and the subject of that nasty gram comes up, which led to conjecture on the central mystery: whose kid actually did the scribbling? One of the dads, a naturally quiet guy, suddenly pipes up. 'Oh, it was the host’s kid, I saw him do it. Did I never mention that?' That was the gossip equivalent of napalm. Immediately spread like fire and sent shockwaves across the ‘hood. It was so funny."

"Our maths teacher (40ishF) left around the same time. Everyone figured they had hooked up and got fired for it or something.

Anyway, fast forward 10 years and I'm at an engagement party. A different old teacher is there, and throughout the course of our conversation I wonder out loud how those other teachers blew up their lives. She, who is at this point a fair few wines deep, says, 'Well, really, it's not like she was his actual sister. They weren't raised together that way.' And that's how I found out my coach left his family and his job to go start a new life with his full biological sister who was raised by their grandparents."

"Guess who got Ancestry DNA kits for herself and her siblings (who are his kids) this year? Wanted to see how Irish they were. She ain't Irish at all. Uh oh. We all knew this would happen, but damn."

One day, I got a call from someone else I knew at the company.; she had been fired that morning. As it turned out, she was having an affair with the HR director. Not only that, but she and her husband had begun going to dinner with her lover and his wife; even going to the beach together. 

Neither spouse had any idea what was going on. According to my friend, she had examined his wedding ring closely, bought one just like it, and duplicated the scratches on it. On the inside, she had engraved, ‘You’re really mine.’ The HR director’s wife made his life a relentless hell, to the point where he eventually left town. Somehow, though, she managed to stay married to her husband and completely dropped out of the workforce."

"She was clocked in every day and did overtime, but never physically showed up. Another manager at the same restaurant at the same time was allegedly caught embezzling money from the company. I say allegedly because the story went around the store, but the person was never fired or jailed. I’m not even 100% sure there was a true investigation because I had already left the restaurant and quit, and it was all hearsay in a DM from someone who was still working there."

"One of his delivery drivers would deliver baked goods around town and also pick up ingredients at restaurant supply stores. He noticed some charges on his account for things he didn’t use in his business, and when he investigated, it turned out the driver was buying extra items to supply his wife’s food truck."

And the managers (there were about three) were stealing hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds from the waiters’ tips. No one thought the stepdad could have children (he and his wife had never been able to conceive), so when my grandma got pregnant, everyone assumed it was her husband’s child. After the stepdad passed away, the man who raised my mum brought it up again. He told her he was certain he wasn’t her biological father and urged her to take a DNA test, especially since the stepdad had money that could have gone to her. My mum and grandma brushed it off, thinking he was just bitter after their divorce and trying to stir up drama. 

A couple of months ago, my mum finally did a DNA test with her sister. The first result she saw was that they were only half-sisters, and that her biological father was actually the stepdad all along. The wild part is that everyone involved, her mum, the man who raised her, and her biological father, had already passed away before any of this came to light."
