Megan Thee Stallion is breaking her silence after being rushed to the hospital after falling “very ill” while performing onstage at Tuesday night’s showing of the musical “Moulin Rouge!” on Broadway in New York City. “Last night was a real wake-up call for me. I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me,” the musician wrote in a Wednesday Instagram post. She explained to her nearly 33 million followers that she thought she was going to “faint on stage” and “really tried to push through” her performance, but ultimately “couldn’t.” “Hotties I wanna be real with y’all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting yall down,” she continued, referring to her nickname for her fan base. “I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been.” Megan Thee Stallion said she will return to the stage on Thursday, adding she will be “stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve.” “Thank you for always riding with me and loving me through everything,” she told her fans. On Wednesday, the rapper’s representative, Didier Morais, shared a statement with HuffPost. “On Tuesday evening, Megan was transported to a local hospital to undergo a medical evaluation after experiencing concerning symptoms,” her rep said. “Doctors ultimately identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms. Megan has since been treated, discharged and is now resting.” Morais added, “Megan is incredibly grateful for the prayers and well-wishes from her supporters and is looking forward to resuming her role as Zidler on Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Thursday.” The three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper portrays the opportunistic impresario of the Moulin Rouge cabaret, Harold Zidler, in the musical. She made her debut in the show on March 24 at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theater. Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, made history as the first female performer to play the role, not only in the Broadway production but in any “Moulin Rouge!” production worldwide, according to Playbill. She is set to wrap up her performance run on May 17. The “Mamushi” rapper’s hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, showed his support for her following the incident in a Tuesday X post, in which he asked fans to send prayers for the musician. “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital,” Deryck wrote. After landing her role in the Broadway production, Megan Thee Stallion gushed over her excitement to take on a “new opportunity” in a statement to Variety. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace,” she said. “Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.” “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” will show its final Broadway performance on July 26 after a seven-year run, making it one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history.
