I-80 west of Des Moines to be closed more than a dozen nights in April

As the Iowa Department of Transportation continues work expanding Interstate 80 between Waukee and West Des Moines, several overnight road closures will take place in April. Additional closures will also take place near De Soto. Here's what to know. In De Soto, westbound lane closures will take place overnight from Monday, April 6, through Wednesday, April 8. Eastbound lane closures are scheduled from Wednesday, April 8, through Friday, April 10. Each night, lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Westbound lane closures stretch from the exit for U.S. Highway 169/U.S. Highway 6/N Avenue (Exit 111) to the R16/R Avenue exit (Exit 113). Eastbound lane closures include the U.S. 169/Guthrie Avenue interchange (Exit 110) to the R22/Ute Avenue interchange (Exit 117). Detours near De Soto will include the following streets: Westbound: Traffic will exit and head north on R16/R. Avenue, head west on U.S. 6/290th Street and then south on U.S. 6/U.S. 169/N Avenue to reconnect to I-80. Eastbound: Traffic will exit I-80 and head north on U.S. 6/U.S. 169/N. Avenue, turn east on U.S. 6/290th Street and then south on R16/R Avenue to return to the interstate. In West Des Moines, eastbound I-80 will be closed on several sets of nights: Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 10: From Jordan Creek Parkway (Exit 121) to the southwest mixmaster Sunday, April 12 to Friday, April 17: From Grand Prairie Parkway to the southwest mixmaster Sunday, April 19 to Friday, April 24: From Grand Prairie Parkway to the southwest mixmaster Westbound I-80 will be closed between the southwest mixmaster in West Des Moines and Grand Praire Parkway in Waukee on the following nights starting at 8:30 p.m.: Wednesday, April 8 Thursday, April 9 Sunday, April 12 The interstate will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning. Different detours will be required near West Des Moines depending on where the closure begins. From April 6 to April 10, drivers will exit at Jordan Creek Parkway (Exit 121), head east on University Avenue, return to the interstate using the University Avenue interchange, where they can head north to remain on I-80/35 heading east or can head south to connect to Interstate 235 or I-35 southbound. From April 12 to April 12, drivers will have to exit at Grand Prairie Parkway (Exit 118), head east on University Avenue, and return using the University Avenue interchange. Drivers can head north to remain on I-80/35 heading east or can head south to connect to Interstate 235 or I-35 southbound. The closure of the mixmaster will require westbound drivers to take different exits depending on which interstate they started on. Drivers traveling west on I-235 to reach westbound I-80: Exit at 50th Street (Exit 1A), turn west onto University Avenue and south on Grand Prairie Parkway to rejoin the interstate. Drivers traveling north on I-35 to reach westbound I-80: Exit at University Avenue (Exit 72C), head west and then travel south on Grand Prairie Parkway to reach I-80. Drivers traveling west on I-80/35: Exit at University Avenue (Exit 124), continue west on University Avenue and then south on Grand Prairie Parkway to return to I-80.
