Jon Stewart Slams Trump For Doing One Thing During Iran Talks — And It’s Telling

“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart laid into President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for attending a UFC fight on Saturday, the same day that high-stakes negotiations with Iran were taking place in Pakistan. “Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it, because, I shit you not, he went to a UFC fight with Dana White,” Stewart said. “Now, before you criticize the president of the United States for attending a UFC fight around the same time that America and Iran are locked in high-stakes negotiations in Islamabad, you do have to understand, he had fantastic seats.” Stewart then suggested, facetiously, that Trump opting not to attend the negotiations was fine because Rubio would obviously be on the case. “The president didn’t need to be in Islamabad; I’m sure he can delegate some of the heavy lifting to his accomplished Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who, oh, is also at the fight. Come on!” A horrified Stewart then revealed that Vice President JD Vance was leading the delicate negotiations with Iran, which only lasted for one day. “Wait, you went home, and you didn’t even get a deal? It failed, and you just came home? I’m sorry, don’t be too hard on yourself, you did give it almost a day,” Stewart said. “I mean, we all knew that’s what it took to build Rome.” Watch Stewart’s full opening segment from Monday night’s show here: By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
