Newly released coroner reports detail the deaths of John "Jay" Ruskey, 53, and Kristen Ruskey, 49, a Santa Barbara County couple found unresponsive inside a Cambria residence on February 8. Investigators say the deaths were accidental, caused by toxic carbon monoxide exposure, and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office said drug use did not contribute. Hours earlier, Kristen called 911, saying John might be having a seizure after eating a chocolate bar with "shrooms," and medics urged a hospital trip that he declined. A carbon monoxide detector in their room was disconnected, and toxicology found dangerous carbon monoxide levels in both; Kristen also had a 0.04 blood alcohol concentration.
