Charlize Theron Trashes Timothee Chalamet's Future In NYT Interview

Oscar winner Charlize Theron appeared pessimistic about actor Timothée Chalamet’s longevity in Hollywood, suggesting AI will be doing his job in 10 years. In a New York Times interview published Saturday, the “Apex” star pounced on the “Marty Supreme” actor’s recent comments that “no one cares” about ballet or opera anymore. Theron, a former ballerina whose injuries prompted a switch to acting, said, “Oh boy, I hope I run into him one day.” She said Chalamet made “a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly.” “But in 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live. And we shouldn’t shit on other art forms.” Chalamet has taken a beating from those in the arts for his February remarks, including from Oscar-winning actor Jamie Lee Curtis. “His comments are silly, and I’m sorry that they’re going to be a bit of his legacy now,” she said. “I’m sure he regrets the comment because you can’t throw those art forms under a bus. You can’t do it. They’re too important.” Oscars host Conan O’Brien roasted him at the recent ceremony where Chalamet lost as a Best Actor nominee for the third time. “Security is extremely tight. I’m told there are concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities,” he said in his monologue. Addressing the actor directly, he added, “They’re just mad you left out jazz.” But neither Conan nor Curtis gazed into their crystal balls and saw a relatively brief career for the “Wonka” star. Chalamet’s rep did not immediately respond to a HuffPost request for comment.
