Leaving a job on the spot can be freeing or risky, and these people experienced both sides.

"And that day, less than a week and a half before the wedding, and with everything paid and prepped, they 'revoked' the approval because a supervisor wanted the time off instead. Told her to move her wedding. With a week's notice.

She quit on the spot. I realized I couldn't keep doing this, and I quit with her. I didn't even know her name. I hope her wedding was beautiful."

"The supervisor was a cheap ass that wanted me to do all of it with no help. Fuck that! When I filed for unemployment, I told them what a misogynistic bigot he was. He was fired about two months later.

So, retired now at almost 72. And happy."

"So I said sorry, but I'm rescinding my acceptance and won't be there tomorrow. At that point she asked me to go to orientation and we'd work it out.ย 

I went to orientation, and afterward she contacted me and said we worked it out so that you can have Friday and Monday off, so you can go on the cruise Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, I'm not missing five days of a seven-day cruise. I walked at that point. Luckily, another company also offered me a job at the same time, and they were fine with me starting after my cruise."

"I took the trip anyway, and that first shift after I left, guess who calls me, wondering where I am? I was suspended when I got back, eventually filed a union grievance that did absolutely nothing, and I was fired. I found a much better job a few weeks later."

"Suddenly, they started backtracking, but she quit anyway. It was a fucking bakery, guys. Not some crazy important job. A bakery, and they thought they could demand that we fly home at the last minute and cut our honeymoon short so she could work her shift at the bakery. She not only quit, but we extended our honeymoon for another week."

"I went back to my desk and wrote a big email saying I am quitting and why. I sent it to higher-ups and some co-workers. Then I ripped a poster in the center, wrote 'I quit' at the back, and walked out. One of my co-workers told me that the manager was fired three weeks later. Apparently, she was saving slots for her favorites, as we had limited PTO slots, and she was canceling vacations for people so her friends could sign up for it last-minute."
