Jimmy Kimmel Gains Unlikely Ally In Popular Right-Wing Podcaster Who Hates Him

Hey, if nothing else, Candace Owens is an expert at getting people to think, “WTF?” And this is no exception. During a livestream on her YouTube channel Tuesday, the very popular right-wing conspiracy theorist surprisingly defended Jimmy Kimmel — though it should be noted that she’s currently embroiled in a spat with President Donald Trump herself. “This tweet about the left’s rhetoric pertaining to Jimmy Kimmel — referring to him as hateful and violent — I got to stop you right there because this feels a little bit like people in glass houses,” Owens said in the intro of her livestream. Last Thursday, while parodying the then-upcoming White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Kimmel cracked a joke about first lady Melania Trump having “a glow like an expectant widow.” Two days later, a man opened fire outside the official dinner before police tackled and arrested him. The Trumps were both in attendance at the event, but were whisked away by security. On Monday, the first lady demanded that ABC fire Kimmel, writing in a post on X that his rhetoric was “hateful and violent.” Hours later, the president took to his Truth Social platform to accuse Kimmel of issuing a “call to violence,” and also demanded he be fired. Later on in her lengthy livestream, Owens implied that she felt the Trumps linking the assassination attempt to Kimmel’s joke felt like a bit of a stretch, and that the current administration is really more concerned with “coming after the First Amendment.” “They’re going after Jimmy Kimmel, which I’m again angry at this [since it] is the second time that they’re going to make me defend Jimmy Kimmel,” Owens said. “They are trying to assert … that it’s actually Jimmy Kimmel’s joke that is to blame for the White House Correspondents’ incident.” Owens went on to point out that the president coming after Kimmel over a joke was pretty hypocritical. “Trump would make a joke about something and then they’d all get out and pretend it was super serious,” Owens said. “It’s ironic because Jimmy Kimmel was a part of that syndicate of people that did this. And I said, ‘No.’ And I couldn’t stand Jimmy Kimmel. I still really don’t like Jimmy Kimmel, but they’re flipping it now on its head and they’re Jimmy Kimmel-ing it!” Owens continued. “They’re doing the thing where they pretend that a joke is existential,” she said, continuing to call out Trump and his ilk. “A clear and obvious joke is existential and now the source of shootings. That’s that. This happened because Jimmy Kimmel made a joke.” The beef between Owens and Trump has been brewing for weeks, after the president slammed several of his prominent former allies — including Owens — for criticizing the war in Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Owens “crazy” and trashed a conspiracy theory Owens has been peddling on her podcast since 2024 about how France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, is a man. Owens has been so ardent about this particular subject that it prompted the first couple of France to file a defamation lawsuit against Owens in 2025. “[Owens] accuses the Highly Respected First Lady of France of being a man, when she is not, and will hopefully win lots of money in the ongoing lawsuit,” Trump wrote. “Actually, to me, the First Lady of France is a far more beautiful woman than Candace, in fact, it’s not even close!” Owens later shot back on X by mocking Trump’s weird use of punctuation. “Why is my name in quotation marks though?” Owens said, highlighting that Trump referred to her as “‘Candace’ (Really Dumb and mentally ill!)” in his Truth Social post.
