Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) snapped at a reporter for TMZ who peppered him with questions about Congress’s inability to pass a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill and the upcoming recess. “It’s good to see you bro,” the video the outlet posted showed TMZ’s Charlie Cotton saying to Meuser as he was walked to the U.S. Capitol on Thursday. “I’m a bit frustrated that Congress is going on another break right now,” Cotton continued. “You got to keep in mind something, we work for our constituents,” Meuser said. “When we go on so-called recess, it’s district work week. I think there’s reason for perhaps staying, if we can get it done.” Cotton continued to press Meuser on the House’s failure to pass DHS funding legislation with the Republican countering, “the Democrats won’t pass legislation.” “Stop trying to kick things up that aren’t worth it,” Meuser said, beginning to walk away. “I’m trying to be respectful,” Cotton insisted as he continued to follow the lawmaker, to which the congressman said, “you’re not trying to be respectful, don’t talk to me anymore.” “I’m just frustrated,” Cotton continued. “We just want you to pass legislation, and you guys are going home.” “Talk to the f‑‑‑ing Democrats,” Meuser shot back before Cotton stopped following him. The dust-up comes as TMZ has increased its efforts in Washington, D.C., as its leadership has looked to channel frustration in Congress among the American people. News of TMZ’s arrival has sparked both groans and curiosity among members, staffers and journalists covering Congress. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
