Jensen Huang gets last-minute invite to Trump-Xi Summit

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang boarded Air Force One as a last-minute addition to President Donald Trump’s delegation Tuesday night for a highly anticipated summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The Nvidia CEO, a Trump ally who has repeatedly lobbied Congress and the administration on loosening export controls on AI semiconductors, was notably not included on the list of CEOs invited to attend the summit that was circulated Monday. Other executives invited to the summit that takes place Thursday and Friday include Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. Huang’s attendance raises speculation about whether chip exports could come up in negotiations. "Jensen is attending the summit at the invitation of President Trump to support America and the administration's goals,” a Nvidia spokesperson said in a statement shared with POLITICO. The White House extended the invitation to Huang following media reports that he wasn’t invited, according to a person granted anonymity to discuss information about the trip that has not yet been made public. "CNBC incorrectly reported that the Great Jensen Huang, of Nvidia, was not invited to the incredible gathering of the World’s Greatest Businessmen/women proudly going to China," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday. "In actuality, Jensen is currently on Air Force One and, unless I ask him to leave, which is highly unlikely, CNBC’s reporting is incorrect or, as they say in politics, FAKE NEWS!" Huang successfully lobbied the administration to approve sales of Nvidia’s H200 chips — now the third most advanced in the company’s lineup — to China last December. The move was met with skepticism from China hawks on both sides of the aisle who fear giving China access to more advanced American chips could give the adversary an edge in the global AI race.
