New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kept his guard up when asked if President Donald Trump could be a “bad luck charm” for the New York Knicks during a Thursday press conference.

Someone in the press pool was clearly in a mischievous mood when they wondered if the mayor will be linking up with his frenemy Trump when the Knicks get home court advantage during the NBA finals.

On Wednesday, the native New Yorker confirmed he’ll be in the crowd after the series heads to Madison Square Garden for Game 3.

Mamdani, who cheered on his team from the nosebleeds during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals last Friday, kept his answer diplomatic, telling reporters, “You know, if the president comes to watch the Knicks, I’ll leave the president to watch the Knicks as he wants to watch the Knicks.”

“I’ve been lucky enough to go to a few games this season,” he went on, calling it “lovely” sit in the cheap(er) seats and that he’ll see where he finds himself rooting from if he gets the chance to watch any future games.

Asked if Trump could jinx the Knicks’ winning streak, Mamdani refused to take the bait and dunk on the nation’s top Republican.

“I’m not going to do any analysis of the president’s fandom,” he told reporters. “I will say that anyone who wants to come and watch the Knicks, and pray that [Landry Shamet] keeps making those 3s, and we see ‘Captain Clutch’ out there on the court, I think everybody should be welcomed there.”

While Mamdani stayed out of the fray while talking about the president, he was happy to troll Trump ally Vivek Ramaswamy after his home team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, were swept by the Knicks last week.

Letting a pre-game snap of Ramaswamy’s court side “date night” with wife Apoorva Ramaswamy speak for itself following the Cavs’ 93- to 130-point routing, the mayor needled the Republican with reposts to both his personal and official government X accounts, zero color commentary added.

As the Knicks have been able to bask in basketball glory since trouncing the Cavs, earning them their first spot in the finals since 1999, they’re still waiting to learn who they’ll take on in the championship series.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are still duking it out for the Western Conference title, with OKC leading series 3-2. Game 6 tips off Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
