‘He’s Very Charming’: Tucker Carlson Can’t Stop Praising Possible Democrat 2028 Candidate In New Podcast Episode

It looks like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has gained a surprising new admirer: MAGA die-hard-turned-vocal-Trump critic Tucker Carlson. Carlson’s love fest over Newsom kicked off during Friday’s episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show.” He asked his guest, independent political commentator Jimmy Dore, about his thoughts on the Democratic governor. “I think he’s fantastic, don’t you think he’s great? I think he cares about the people,” Dore said. “I think it’s great, he’s going to make the country look as pretty as his hair.” Visibly amused by Dore’s reply, Carlson said that “it feels like [Newsom’s] the nominee,” apparently referring to the 2028 presidential election. Although Newsom has not officially announced a presidential run, he is widely considered a top contender and has publicly said he’s actively considering a White House bid. “We’ll see. I mean, he’s got the gift of gab,” Dore said of Newsom, prompting Carlson to gush, “Oh, he’s unbelievable!” Dore went on to compare Newsom to former President Barack Obama, saying the two Democrats have the ability to make people “feel better” with their empowering speeches. However, Dore also admitted that he thinks the governor is “full of it.” “Oh, for sure,” Carlson agreed. Despite claiming that Newsom will “say literally anything,” Carlson said he thinks the governor is “fun to talk to” and “very charming.” Last week, President Donald Trump mocked Carlson and several other right-wing Trump critics in an AI-generated post on Truth Social. The post featured a fake image of Carlson, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), far-right political commentator Candace Owens, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) crowded together in an SUV with the U.S. Capitol building in the background. “Get in loser, we’re going losing,” Trump captioned the photo. In April, Trump told the New York Post that he thinks Carlson is “a low-IQ person” just days after Carlson slammed the president for posting an AI-generated image of himself looking like Jesus Christ and then trying to explain his way out of the controversy. “It’s mockery. He’s mocking Jesus. He’s making fun of Christianity. The central figure of the religion is being held up for mockery,” Carlson said during an April 15 episode of his podcast.
