Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) waded into the controversy surrounding the algae- and peeling paint-plagued Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Tuesday.

Asked by the MeidasTouch Network for her take on the fallout from President Donald Trump’s troubled $14 million renovation project, the New York Democrat suggested the problems were predictable given the current White House’s anti-science agenda.

“I mean, when you defund science research, when you don’t really understand the first thing about science, yeah, they talked a bunch of smack,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez then zinged: “They said they had to repaint the pool and now they’ve turned the place into a swamp. They turned it into an actual swamp.”

The “swamp” of Washington, D.C., was, of course, what Trump repeatedly vowed to drain during his three presidential campaigns.
