Elizabeth Warren Blasts Trump For Flaking Out On Bipartisan Housing Bill

President Donald Trump flaked out on a news conference and bill signing Wednesday morning that sought to decrease housing costs, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is both perplexed and ticked off, in equal measure. “I’m sorry, if you’re asking me to get into Donald Trump’s head and figure out what’s going on there, you need somebody else,” Warren told CNBC after Trump canceled minutes before he was scheduled to sign the bill, which would streamline construction processes and limit corporate landlords. “I just … I don’t have any idea.” She said it would seem to be yet another data point supporting the claim that Trump truly doesn’t care about anyone but himself. “This just doesn’t make any sense other than whatever it is he wants to do is complete indifference to the cost squeeze on American families and to genuine efforts to do something about it,” she said. (Watch the clip in the player above.) Warren co-sponsored the bipartisan bill in the Senate, along with Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), where it passed resoundingly 85-5. It cleared the House on a similarly overwhelming 358-32 vote. “He could be over here trying to claim the victory lap, and instead he’s saying, ‘No, no,’” Warren continued. “He doesn’t want anything to do with it.” “It’s because he really doesn’t care about American families and doesn’t care about the fact that prices are up and the promises he made to lower costs on Day 1 have not only come to nothing — prices are higher on groceries, prices are higher on healthcare, prices are higher on virtually everything that Americans buy — because of Donald Trump’s policies,” she added. Earlier this month, Trump short-circuited when asked to respond to a terrible inflation report and said he “loves” inflation. “I love the inflation,” the president said in the Oval Office, interrupting a reporter before they could mention the actual data. “No, I love it. The numbers were great,” Trump said. [Editor’s note: The numbers were not great]. “You know what I really love? I love the inflation.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
