President Trump on Wednesday canceled plans to sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill over his push for Congress to pass voter ID legislation. The announcement came just ahead of his scheduled lunch with Republican senators at the Capitol and added to the tension over his legislative agenda.

“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has said there are not enough votes to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act and he refuses to push for a change to filibuster rules to get it done.

On Tuesday night, he lashed out at the GOP senators who supported an Iran war powers resolution earlier in the day.

Trump has a busy day overall.

After his Capitol trip, he’ll meet with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the White House, is expected to meet with defense contractors and will attend the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, where he will deliver remarks in honor of the U.S.’s 250th anniversary.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has a press conference scheduled, hours after his endorsed New York House candidates lost to those backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Read takeaways from those elections and more here.
