(NewsNation) — Video captured during Saturday's shooting at a Twin Falls, Idaho, In-N-Out appears to show the moments gunfire erupted, leaving three people dead and seven others injured.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and a civilian exchanged gunfire with the suspect during the incident. Authorities commended both individuals for their actions.

Lane Koehn, who recorded the video, told local media he was stopped at a traffic light when he saw a man firing into a vehicle just a few feet ahead of him.

Koehn said the shooter was about 30 to 40 feet away and appeared to be armed with a semi-automatic rifle. He said the vehicle drove away after the shots were fired, though he did not know the condition of those inside.

Koehn said he then witnessed another person draw a handgun and exchange gunfire with the suspect.

According to Koehn, the armed citizen's actions may have diverted the shooter's attention long enough for customers and employees to flee the crowded restaurant.

In a second video, the suspect appears to shout "black shirt" toward responding officers as commands are heard from off camera.

He described the gunman as firing "aimlessly without control."

Koehn also said he saw an In-N-Out employee suffering from a gunshot wound being dragged across the parking lot by another worker. He, the armed citizen and the employee reportedly stayed with the victim until paramedics arrived.

"She was pretty bad off, but I don't know. I hope she made it," Koehn told KPTV.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Chad Williams. Investigators say Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and believe he acted alone. Officials have not identified a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
