Scott Eastwood is opening up about the death of his girlfriend Jewel Brangman, who died in tragic car accident in 2014. “We were together for three or four years,” the actor and son of Clint Eastwood said during an appearance on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s “Armchair Expert” podcast this week. “They had a recall on the airbag and what would’ve been a fender bender [that] probably most people would’ve survived,” he explained, adding that Brangman “was essentially shot by the airbag.” Eastwood said he was on a film set when Brangman died, which he described as “really tough.” “This had happened before, actually, I had lost Paul Walker on ‘Fury,’” he said of the fellow actor, who also died in a car crash. “He was one of my close friends. When you’re on a film set, you don’t have time to grieve because the show must go on,” Eastwood said, adding that you’re essentially “stuck” because “you can’t fly home.” “I got the call, actually, during a filming day. And I think I did a classic defense mechanism, ‘Just punt that to later. Compartmentalize that til later,’” he said, explaining that it was “brutal having to deal with that” and not be able to fully process things. “I grieved later,” Eastwood added. “And that’s not a great thing ’cause I think you do want to grieve with the people that are around that you did know that were a part of their lives, as well. I think that’s an important part of the grieving process.” The actor has opened up about Bergman’s death before, telling GQ Australia about the accident in 2016. “The fucked up thing is, it was a fender bender, and there was a recall on airbags. Her airbag exploded. It shot a projectile through her body,” Eastwood said. “It split her spine, and um ... I’ve never told anybody that.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
