Donald Trump and the White House’s weekend boasts to reporters about lowering prescription medication prices somewhat backfired. The president, just before boarding Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, held up a printout of The Washington Post article headlined “Prescription drug prices record sharpest drop in more than 60 years.” He encouraged photographers to snap images of him proudly holding up the story, making sure they got the shot. “And I told you that was going to happen,” Trump bragged before hyping other positive headlines about himself. However, there was one problem. As The Guardian pointed out, The Post’s article stated that although “the White House took credit for the good news,” it also actually noted further down in the story how “some experts said a Biden-era policy that requires Medicare to negotiate prices for some popular prescription drugs is more likely to be driving down costs,” and went on to cite those experts.
