Even Laura Ingraham Can't Help But Admire Zohran Mamdani's New Initiative

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham offered New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani some faint praise this week after observing his multilingual skills in action. Earlier this month, Mamdani teamed up with the Theatre Development Fund, a New York-based arts nonprofit, to launch an initiative offering free Broadway tickets to local high school students. To promote the campaign, the mayor shared a series of outreach videos on his social media accounts in which he confidently speaks Bengali, Mandarin and Spanish on camera. While the now-viral videos have won support for the democratic socialist, his opponents have been less impressed. On Monday’s edition of “The Ingraham Angle,” conservative author and pundit Raymond Arroyo offered an especially snarky take, noting: “Leave it to a socialist, Laura, to push a lottery for theater tickets.” But Ingraham was surprisingly complimentary. “Pretty good. That was pretty good,” she said after hearing Mamdani speak. “He actually has a good accent. Not bad.” Even Laura Ingraham is impressed by Mamdani’s multilingual videos: That’s pretty good. He actually has good accents. pic.twitter.com/zOMLiCHbjC Arroyo, however, remained unconvinced. After pointing out the average price of tickets to Broadway shows, he suggested Mamdani and other lawmakers should instead target the theater unions that he believes are to blame for the rise in Broadway production costs. He also cited the Broadway League’s “Demographics of the Broadway Audience 2024 ― 2025” study, which analyzed the composition of the modern theatergoing audience, arguing that Mamdani should not be “appealing to the Bangladeshis and the Chinese.” “Sixty-six percent of the Broadway audience is white. Eleven percent is Asian,” he said. “I mean, I’m sorry — the Bangladeshi audience is not that extreme on Broadway.” Mamdani studied Mandarin in high school and has used phonetic preparation to connect with New York’s diverse communities, but right-wingers still questioned his seemingly effortless multilingual delivery. Former reality star Spencer Pratt ― who in June lost his bid to become the next mayor of Los Angeles ― went as far as to accuse “Commie Mamdani” of “using AI” to create the video, which he called “very creepy.” Mamdani seemingly responded late Monday by posting an Instagram video that compiled some of his linguistic flubs. “Could AI do this TAMBIEN?” he wrote in the caption.
