Promising review: "It’s been a lifesaver for cooling off the pups outside, especially in the heat, and it folds down flat so I can tuck it away without taking up space." —Shop with Alex Get it from Amazon for $21.97+ (available in sizes S–6XL and three colors). Promising review: "This ball will last a lifetime, and if it doesn't, I will have to purchase another one because my dog just loves his Jolly Ball. It's very durable and chew-proof. He is an aggressive chewer, and this ball has managed to stay intact. It's light enough to pick up and throw, but hard enough so your dog cannot sink his/her teeth into it. This ball is a great way to give your dog exercise, and you don't have to do much, but stay out of the way. My dog pushes this ball all over the yard. Great purchase!!" —LK Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in six sizes and two colors). Promising review: "Overall, it was a great hat. My ears slipped out of the ear holes from time to time, but the hat stayed on my head nicely even then. It kept the sun out of my eyes some, and kept me nice and cool after mom added water to it." —Amber Get it from Chewy for $9.99+ (available in three sizes). Promising review: "When I knew I was bringing home a puppy, this was one of the first things I bought, and it is 100% absolutely worth it. I carry this water bottle on almost every single walk and to the dog park — so much so that other people's pups come up to me for hydration, LOL! My puppy has even learned to come up and ask for water when he sees me with this. It's also great for having on hand in the car. It's easy enough to use, you just press the button to dispense water, and if your pup doesn't drink it all, you can press the button to recycle it back inside." —Negesti Kaudo, former BuzzFeed Writer Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in three sizes and five colors). Promising review: "These are fantastic. Just clip them on the leash handle and bring a bottle of water with you when you go for long walks. I have a chocolate lagotto romagnolo, and she has a thick dark coat, and she loves to go on long walks, but the Florida sun can get hot. We find a nice shady spot, and she will lie down and look at me to break out the water bowl. After a bowl or two, she is cooled off and ready to carry-on. It makes me feel better that I can give her a drink when she gets hot to help cool her down. You can open it to a small bowl or all the way for a larger bowl. Definitely a super buy for us!!!" —Frankie D Get a 2-pack from Amazon for $3.97+ (available in three sizes and 13 colors). Promising review: "It actually cools down!!!! And my dog loves it on hot days! He uses it all the time. I wish they made one for humans!!" —Daniela Velazquez Get it from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in three sizes and two colors). Promising review: "I looked at many cooling pads before deciding on this one. I like that it is washable. I also prefer this soft one compared to the heavy plastic/gel ones I've had in the past. The plastic/gel ones did not work (they seemed to absorb heat from everything around them, making them uncomfortable to the pet. This one has a soft feeling that they love." —Shannon Get it from Walmart for $21.59+ (available in three sizes and colors). Promising review: "I have a dog that loves to swim but has zero recall skills. This product allows us to enjoy the water and gives her the freedom to play. Other ropes and leads we’ve used have absorbed water and become quite heavy and cumbersome. This product really floats and prevents tangles as my dog swims. It barely absorbs water, allowing us to wind up the rope quickly and finish the hike dry and ready for next time. If I had one wish, I wish it had a more substantial snap, but otherwise I give it 10/10!" —KT Get it from Amazon for $13.99+ (available in two sizes and three colors). Promising review: "My new puppy loves playing in this. Especially since the heat index is over 100, this is a great way to cool off. I even walk through it myself to cool off while working in my yard. I have it on my deck with scrap carpet under it to protect the bottom. The company even provided instructions for use and protection. It comes with a repair patch as well." —Elizabeth A. Stegacu-Nelson Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in seven sizes). Promising review: "I was skeptical when it first arrived and considered returning. My reason: my doggie didn't seem to know what it was at first. 🐕 But in no time at all, she's wild about this goofy ball. I've examined its durability, and she (whose bite force is that of a pitbull) hardly put a mark on it! Man, those goofy sounds it makes, 😆 as long as I hear that, I know my doggie is having a blast and keeping occupied." —Julius A.W. Get it from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in four styles). Promising review: "Works great! The dog says she feels ridiculous, but this would absolutely save her if she went overboard unintentionally. Works great when we are swimming in the deep and want her to come into the water with us and cool off." —Cypress Get it from Amazon for $16.95+ (available in sizes XS–XL and six colors). Promising review: "This life jacket is perfect for my doodle. We used it all summer, and he loves it. It helps him swim more easily, too. It’s super cute and good quality!" —Annie Castaneda Get it from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes XS–XXL and 24 colors). Promising review: "Got this for my 24-pound dog, as he usually lies on the concrete patio when we’re all outside, with the sun blazing down on him. Got it set up and didn’t even have to coax him onto it. He loves it! He’s so comfortable and definitely cooler with that canopy over him. It’s also held up well through the heat, rain, and some surprisingly strong windstorms. Definitely recommend." —Prairie Dove Get it from Amazon for $34.99+ (available in three sizes and two colors). Promising review: "My furry friend LOVES lounging on this indoor and outdoor hammock. It keeps him cool with the breathable mesh and gets him up off the floor. The frame is sturdy and has skid-resistant feet, too. This awesome cot allows my pup to live his best suite life! Woof!" —Mark Anthony Get it from Amazon for $36.99+ (available in four sizes and six colors). Promising review: "I put this on my dog’s paw pads when walking in the summer. The stick makes it super easy to apply, and it seems to protect my buddy from pavement burns. Love it." —Tiffany H Promising review: "My 45-pound dog does not mind these while we are active! If I were to leave them on her while unattended, I'm sure she would rip them off. Great for protecting paws from high heat in 100+ degree summers." —Kayla & Troy Get them from Amazon for $29.99 (available in nine sizes and colors). Promising review: "I was so pleasantly surprised to find this float was even better than I expected. It is so sturdy and well-made. We have used this all summer long, and it still looks brand new!" —Cheryl King Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in three colors). Promising review: "This float is hilarious and surprisingly durable. My pup loved it right away, and it kept her steady in the water without any issues. It’s also big enough for a few toys, which makes pool days way more fun. Definitely worth it if your dog likes to chill in the pool." —Sam Get it from Amazon for $36.39+ (available in four styles). As I mentioned, my dog is very picky about the toys he plays with, and his toy basket remains untouched most days. Last year, I got a PR box that included a small tennis ball, and Bailey kept trying to take it. I let him have it, and he LOVED IT. Since then, we have gotten him several small tennis balls to play with as they've quickly become one of his favorite toys. Not only does he love playing fetch with them, but he also entertains himself with them. He also likes chewing on them (which is why we go through them so often), but the size is small enough that he can fit it in his mouth (just big enough that he won't choke on it), and he gets so excited when he hears the squeak!!! Get them from Target: a pack of five for $7.39 (size XS) or a pack of four for $9.79 (size S). Promising review: "These are really cool hot dogs in hot weather. We live in Florida, where it gets really hot in the summertime. I wet these jackets, then put them on the dogs in the summertime before we go out for a walk if I’ve gotten up past 8 a.m. As we have dogs with short faces and they get overheated very easily, these jackets really help keep them cool. However, I will say that they do get them wet, so be prepared to dry them off when they come back inside." —Shade Garden Get it from Amazon for $32.95+ (available in sizes XXS–XXL and four colors). Promising review: "Love this for my girl. It's a very soft material that fits her 22-inch neck and cools her off! With our heat, I wear one too!" —Rene Get a 4-pack from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in two sizes and 24 color combos). BTW: It also comes with two rope chew toys! Promising reviews: "Best entertaining toy ever. This was the best toy I have purchased for my puppy yet. He loves it, and it helps keep him busy when he is in the yard all day. Only gave four stars for durability because, in a month, he has already torn up the rope toy and a little bungee. However, my 70-pound Chesapeake is what you would classify as an extremely heavy chewer." —Tammi Duckert "My dog loves this toy!!! Our collie loves to chew and tug, and this toy keeps him entertained!" —Judy Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (available in three colors). Promising review: "Got this for my happy dog who loves to swim. It's light to throw into the lake or pool. It floats and is well-made. We've had other brands, but for some reason, my lab destroys them after a few days. This one has lasted all summer, and I can still use it for next year!" —chinnah Get it from Amazon for $9.14+ (available in two sizes). Promising review: "I love these swimming balls just as much as my dogs do. They float and are perfect for the swimming pool. I can’t wait to try these balls at the beach. If you do not have this set yet, you need to buy it now!!" —Madilynn Get a set of two from Amazon for $13.99 (available in four colors). Promising review: "So effective! This harness is amazing!! First walk today, and we had no pulling, even with squirrels darting in front on the path, and dogs barking and lunging. Wow! 🤩 I never leave reviews, but this one deserves it." —molly gravatt Get it from Amazon for $26.99 (available in sizes S–L and four colors). Promising review: "This product is fantastic, a total game changer for your pets who enjoy the water. We used it all summer, and our Aussies had a blast. It made boating and lake life so much easier. Highly recommend! Product and customer service was 10/10." —Kerri Hospes Get it from Amazon for $249.95+ (available in three sizes). Promising review: "This product is a great toy for my very active 6-month-old puppy. It is of very good quality because he tears up his other toys. It goes for hours, giving me a much-needed break from a bored puppy." —Wanda * Things From Chewy Dog Owners Should Run, Not Walk, To Buy * It’s Always Shedding Season Here, 6 Products I Swear By Since Getting A Dog BuzzFeed Shopping is service journalism first: our writers and editors spend all day shopping so you don’t have to, vetting products, fact-checking brand claims, and surfacing what actually helps in real life.
