Trump May Want To Look Outside His Bubble. Even Undecided Voters Think He Sucks

President Donald Trump and Republicans, who are hoping to maintain their narrow majorities in Congress, should pay attention to a recent focus group of undecided voters conducted by Syracuse University. While the participants were described as “undecided” voters, their answers about how Trump was performing on the economy painted a different picture. “I think the president is more concerned about himself. I think the people behind him are trying to work on ways to improve the economy. But the person in front is not,” one participant said during NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Thursday. Another mentioned Trump’s infamous comments about not caring about Americans’ financial situations when thinking about the Iran war. “He flat out said on camera he does not care about it. He does not care that we’re paying $4 a gallon or over,” the woman said. Some participants said the bottom line for them when voting this November would be the rising cost of living. Others pointed to the closing of the Strait of Hormuz as the cause of rising prices. A few responded less diplomatically than others, saying Trump was more concerned with things like his $400 million White House ballroom than the needs of Americans. “The war in Iran, the Epstein files, high gas prices, which in turn means high grocery prices. Things like that are just not quite where I think that they should be,” one respondent said. “Disillusioned with pretty much everything he’s done since he took office, he’s more worried about his vanity projects, like the reflecting pool and his ballroom, than he is with the real problems in this country,” another said. Looking at Trump’s recent approval ratings, these sentiments shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, except maybe the president. According to The New York Times daily averages, Trump’s approval rating currently sits at 37%, with some individual polls having him as low as 30%.
