Trump Wants To Add His Face To Something New — And This Time It’s So Dumb, It’s Perfect

President Donald Trump might be trying to rage-bait us again with some exquisitely idiotic nonsense — but we’ll bite because this time it’s really, really dumb. On Thursday night, Trump posted an AI-generated mockup of his latest vision for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Truth Social. The image features the body of water in its “American flag blue” splendor with a new detail — an outline of Trump’s face. Yet, considering that the water in the pool has been a hue of toxic-sludge green ever since the White House’s rush-renovation of it went completely awry earlier this summer, it’s very funny that the president chose a neon green shade for the outline of his profile. And, hey, at least it’s not gold. The Reflecting Pool drama is part of the president’s larger “Extreme Makeover: White House and Washington D.C. Edition” project, which has included — but is not limited to — plowing over the Rose Garden, tearing down the East Wing of the White House to make way for a ballroom, adding gaudy gold fixtures to the Oval Office and West Wing Colonnade, and a plan to erect a 250-foot “Arc de Trump” near Arlington National Cemetery. In a nutshell, Trump was told by Park Services during his first term that fixing the Reflecting Pool’s decades-long algae problem would be a timely and expensive endeavor. So, Trump — a man with a penchant for using super glue for interior design projects — opted for a cheaper and quicker fix. The president awarded a hefty contract to a handpicked vendor instead of following the standard protocol of soliciting bids to avoid favoritism. The vendor he chose, a swimming pool company, decided to line the bottom of the pond with an “American flag blue”-colored coating. The plan failed spectacularly, and only days after the lining’s installation, chunks of the coating began to peel off and algae turned the water to a dirty shade of Mountain Dew. Trump tried — and is still trying — to blame vandals for the failed fix, but no evidence of any crime has been found. Now, we suppose he’s trying to fix the pool again, and this time he wants to add his face to the catastrophe — which, to be fair, seems fitting. Trump, who has expressed numerous times that he thinks his face should be added to Mt. Rushmore, loves to add his image to anything he possibly can. He’s added his face to a 24-karat commemorative gold coin, a limited number of U.S. passports and national park passes — the last of which some Trump critics have found creative solutions to correct.
