Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made an incendiary allegation against Michigan candidate for U.S. Senate, Abdul El-Sayed, saying the Muslim politician would hand over sensitive government intelligence to “terrorists” if elected. During a Tuesday night appearance on Fox News, Cruz claimed that El-Sayed “flat out lied” about his links to the Muslim Brotherhood, a pan-Islamist movement that includes extremist sects, in a recent interview on “Meet the Press.” “I believe this man is Muslim Brotherhood,” Cruz added of El-Sayed, who would be the first Muslim to serve in the U.S. Senate if he wins his race against former congressman Mike Rogers come November. By virtue of being elected to a constitutional office, you are deemed to have a security clearance,” he said. “Chuck Schumer could place Abdul El-Sayed on the Senate Intelligence Committee.” “He would have access to the very highest level of classified materials,” Cruz continued. “And I believe, if that were to happen, there would be an unacceptably high risk that American servicemen and women, their lives would be endangered, and that our covert intelligence assets, their lives would be in danger because every reason to believe Abdul El-Sayed would share that classified information with Muslim Brotherhood terrorists.” The Texas politician has repeatedly accused El-Sayed of being tied to terrorist sects, claims which the candidate has adamantly denied. Over the weekend, El-Sayed was asked to denounce the Muslim Brotherhood during a rally in Caro, Michigan. “Sure. Yeah, absolutely,” El-Sayed said before going on to lambast the questioner for suggesting he’d put anything above his allegiance to the Constitution if elected.
