“When I was a high school senior, I had an affair with my sister’s guidance counselor.”

I'm a Senior Staff Writer based in New York City, where I've been covering classic BuzzFeed-style content since 2020.

NOTE: There are mentions of molestation, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

"I got $1,600, about $4,500 in today's money. It wasn't really worth it. I just went to the teller, told her I had a gun (I didn't), and quietly said that this was a stick-up. She acquiesced immediately and handed over the dough.

I had guilt, and I even went to therapy for it.

I also met with a lawyer years ago to discuss turning myself in. He said that would be foolish and that, besides, the statute of limitations has passed."

"We have an open marriage. He knows I occasionally have to work contracts overnight and out of town. He does not know how these two things are frequently connected."

"No, it wasn't as big as all that. I introduced the guy to 'a few friends of mine' (officers), and they got buys from him through that. So they had crimes from him aside from what I took part in, so no testifying was warranted.

My conscience made me tell the dealer afterward that I didn't really know the guys I introduced him to that well, and to be careful with them. He didn't listen. Which I guess worked out well for me."

"She ended up reaching out a year later, asking me to be involved in the kid's life, even though she was living with the 40-year-old. I told her 'fuck you' and never talked to her again. So I have a kid out there that no one knows about in my life. This was about 20 years ago."

"I saw and heard everything. I had to pass the car that my husband's car came down on to get to my husband, and I saw the two people inside had been decapitated. Worse than you can imagine! My husband was severely injured, but he survived. The person who caused all of this kept on driving and was never caught. My husband struggled greatly with PTSD and survivor's guilt. He asked me repeatedly if I had seen the people in the car, and I always said I hadn't looked. I told everyone I hadn't seen anything. I never told my husband the truth. I wasn't adding to his burden."

"Immediately after therapy, I came home, and my wife and I went on a walk, and I told her. She told me she had known for years. Apparently, from my night terrors and also from some of my actions throughout my life. She never brought it up to me because of what I said in my dreams; she actually didn't think I knew they happened to me. It was such a mindfuck. My entire life has been such a mindfuck. I am still in therapy, working through it. I suspect I’ll be in therapy forever."

"When the cops came, everyone who saw what happened lied and said he fell into the road because he was drunk."

"It was modded to all heck, and I got in with the wrong group of people. I lived with this guy, whom I thought was a friend. We were driving fast on the back roads, but when we got to the next town, we saw police lights on the main road, and we thought they were for us. I accepted I was going to get a ticket, but he dipped. In a split second, I chose to follow him, doing dumb things to dodge the police. The only reason I didn't get worse charges is that I was open with the officers about everything.

When I complained a year later about my insurance sky rocketing (because of my own dumb fault), they asked why it went up. I just blamed it on having a fast car and my age.

That friendship ended with that roommate soon after this. I packed my bags and moved to another state to focus on myself after that and get myself right."

"We had never even flirted before that day. Things were completely professional. She expressed that she liked how I helped her with office work, which I do because she is kind and soft. She made a statement: 'I wish I had a husband like you who treated me well.' Naturally, I asked if everything was alright. That chat went on for four hours and continued in a bar. She stayed at my house. Her husband was not in town. Separate rooms. The next morning, I made her a good breakfast, and she hugged me tightly. Things followed."

"The smartest kid in our grade was seated in front of me in all of the exams because our names were next to each other, and he happened to be super short, so I could see every single answer and just copied. It was kind of like...how could I not?"

"Honestly, I was always told to be proud of it. I didn't realize it was fucked up until I had kids."

"I know because it had happened previously after a spewing session in the bath, same pipe. We were home that time."

"A few months after the wedding, she got a call from him and put it on speaker. Naturally, she was mad because he didn't come, and he was mad because she was mad. He threatened to kill her; she threatened to kill him, and it got ugly quickly. The call ended when one of them hung up on the other. No goodbye, no talk to you later. Nothing. We would never hear from her dad again.

A few years later, he died very unexpectedly. This, understandably, broke my wife. She mourns the dad he was when she was younger, but most of all, she mourns the relationship she never had. We were talking, and she was saying how she should have called; I reminded her of that call where they had argued.

I said, 'Remember the last time you talked? I distinctly remember you guys yelling and swearing and threatening to kill each other. Then, before you hung up, you said I love you and he said I love you, too.' I told her I was in disbelief — 'Like, you two were literally just threatening to kill each other. How could you go from that to I love you? What kind of family did I marry into?'

I did instantly feel guilty, but I just wanted to make her hurt less. Sometimes she'll bring it up and have to tell the same lie again, and I have mixed feelings every time. It's a lie I have to take to my grave."

"She heard us making out and made us stop immediately. (THANK GOD!) I left for college after that summer and have only returned twice ever since. My mom got married to his dad, and every time I come back, he’s always trying to 'finish what we started' — I have never given in, plus he has two children of his own now. Also, this guy actually fucked my best friend, to which he had to admit to my mom and his dad because of an apparent STI. Imagine how my mom would react if she knew I had hooked up with him as well."

"I was devastated. He married her less than a year after our divorce and moved her in two weeks after he kicked my daughter and me out of our home. It’s been nine years, and I am still suffering, and I just can’t let go. I still miss him terribly, even though it’s been so long. My daughter, who is now turning 19, is the only one who knows how much I miss him and sees me still cry for him all the time. It must be so hard for her to see me like this when she is still suffering, too. I feel terrible for her, but I just can’t move on."

"When things really started to derail, she gave me an ultimatum while sitting in her car in the school parking lot. We could be mother/daughter or lovers, but the latter would not last. The whole situation was fucked up beyond all recognition, and there were times we were both clearly in danger because her husband became unhinged. I was 17."

"I broke things off because my codependency on him was ruining me. I thank whatever power is out there that kept us from meeting in person."

"He was a medic, so he knew what to say to the doctors to be diagnosed with a concussion. ... This allowed him to get out of any real trouble and get out a year early honorably."
