It’s being called, “easily the most disturbing thing on TV”.

#TheExperiment @Channel4 at times infuriating and at times just a great general window into how some in society think us with disabilities should be treated.

Currently watching @Channel4’s the #TheExperiment and it really is like we’re going backwards with how disabled people are treated in Britain. With draconian laws, mass neglect, accessibility being stripped back. The dehumanisation from politicians etc. It’s depressing to see pic.twitter.com/W2E2myi1EZ

As the author of the only history book detailing over 100 years of disability rights in the UK, #TheExperiment was utterly baffling to watch. How little they touched on the fact that this rhetoric is still here, and that's WHY so many of the visitors still supported it.

"As Disabled campaigners for social justice and disability equality, we point to the deep- rooted ableism that runs through our society, where our lives aren’t valued equally to those of non-disabled people, where we are bombarded with political and media messages on being a burden and too costly to support and where we are labelled as fakers and skivers. But rarely do we see this case being made on mainstream television...

Some of the visitors were attracted by the cost-effectiveness of segregation. All the visitors were decent people and it was clear that hostile political messages about Disabled people being a burden and a cost was having a direct impact on the attitudes of ordinary individuals.

Definitely give this programme a watch."
