Katie Miller Afraid Dems Will Go After Federal Crimes In Trump Administration If Elected

Katie Miller, podcaster and wife of White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller, said Saturday morning that Democrats will pursue federal charges against President Donald Trump’s administration if they win the midterms. Miller posted a screenshot of an interview on X in which Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said those who committed a crime in Trump’s administration should be held accountable. “There should be a message across the government ― not that we’re going to punish anyone who worked in the Trump administration ― but that we are a country of laws and not of men,” Schatz said in an interview with The Bulwark earlier this month. Miller took apparent offense to that. “This is Senator Brian Schatz this week,” Miller posted on X. “When Democrats say they are going to prosecute and go after junior Trump staffers, we should believe them.” Miller highlighted the next line in Schatz’s interview, in which the Democrat said: “And if you committed an actual federal crime, that as long as the statute of limitations has not run, you should probably get a lawyer,” Schatz said. At no point did he mention “junior Trump staffers,” but it’s become a GOP talking point in recent days. Trump said Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D) should be “tried for what she did” after she commented last week on holding his administration accountable. “I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration?’ … I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want,” Slotkin said at a University of Chicago event last week. “And so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message sent.” Trump and his fellow Republicans used the remarks to gin up outrage about going after young staffers, which is not what Slotkin said. In Miller’s post, she reposted a Washington Sun article saying the White House is now weighing mass pardons for junior staffers.
