President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of issuing mass pardons for junior staffers in his administration, according to The Washington Sun.

As Democrats reportedly weigh how to hold junior members of the Trump administration accountable in any future corruption probes, the president is now reportedly thinking about widening the scope of his preemptive pardons to protect people in charge of implementing his policies as well as the senior officials who engineered them.

Sources who spoke to The Sun said blanket pardons for all of the administration’s junior staffers seemed unlikely, but Trump could try to safeguard employees involved in particularly contentious policy areas by focusing on departments in deportations, war, or trade.

The news comes after Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan) incited conservative outrage from saying congress should not only focus on high-profile White House figures but accountability from “the people who enabled” corruption within the Trump administration and officials “doing his bidding.”

“I want young people coming out of school … to be like: Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that,” Slotkin said on an Oct. 13 appearance on Vox media’s “America, Actually” podcast. “I want that deterrence message sent.”

MAGA personalities and conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation accused Slotkin of making threats of political prosecutions. In the wake, several of Slotkin’s staffers were targeted by doxing campaigns.

The senator denounced the partisan backlash in a social media statement in the following days, writing, “Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump’s weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like.”
