The 'detached girlfriend' is the new 'chill girl'?

At the end of the day, it does not matter whether the female character is smart; she only garners attention when she becomes physically attractive to the male characters.

To add to that, it was only when she was put in forced proximity with Ryan Reynolds's character, and he accidentally saw her naked, was when he realized that she was, indeed, a human woman, who also had a bangin' body. UGH.

I recently heard someone say that the strong, confident women in pop culture today are essentially just toxic male characters, and that really hit me! 

While we don't particularly have shows that outright punish women for having an appetite for sex anymore, there is a more vicious version of the trope we've been seeing of late.
