Several “Grey’s Anatomy” cast members have shared moving tributes after Eric’s family confirmed that the beloved actor died on Feb. 19 — almost a year after he announced his ALS diagnosis.

Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS (which stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a neurodegenerative condition that impacts the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This causes patients to gradually lose their ability to speak, walk, and breathe independently.

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received,” the statement concluded.

"He came into the show, he wasn't part of the original cast and he wasn't sure how I would take to it... He comes out in his first scene, half-dressed, looking like this Adonis and we had a great time and just laughed about it! I will miss him, as will all the fans, but the great thing is we have him in all his glory on the show, so that when you watch it, he's still very much alive," he added.

"He was bedridden and it was very hard for him to swallow, so the quality of his life was deteriorating so rapidly," he said. "He was the funniest man. He was such a joy to work with and I want to just remember him in that spirit because any time he was on set, he brought so much fun to it."

“My heart is with the people who were lucky enough to be his home,” she added.

Eric guest-starred in an episode of Brilliant Minds last year, playing a firefighter with ALS.
