Visa has launched a new capability on the Visa Acceptance Platform aimed at helping acquirers modernise payment authorisation processing through a single API connection. The service, called Visa Intelligent Authorization, is intended to reduce the need for infrastructure rebuilds for banks and other financial institutions that processes payments on behalf of merchants. It is designed to address constraints in legacy payment authorisation systems, which limit acquirers’ ability to support emerging payment methods and newer commerce use cases. According to a statement, Visa Intelligent Authorization can process transactions across major card networks through one integration. The payment major said the service delivers 99.999% uptime and an average global approval rate of 96.3%. The capability can be used as an acquirer’s primary processor. It can also be deployed alongside existing processing infrastructure to extend functionality. According to Visa, the product includes a machine-learning engine that analyses transaction data in real time. This is used to support routing decisions based on network rules, industry programmes and regional regulations. The service provides instant risk alerts. It also includes a centralised portal with an analytics dashboard to support oversight, settlement processes and regulatory compliance. Visa linked the launch to shifts in digital commerce and new payment methods. The company cited growing use of digital wallets and stablecoins, as well as new commerce models including agentic commerce, which are increasing transaction volumes and data complexity for authorisation systems. Visa Asia Pacific Value‑Added Services head Axel Boye‑Moller said: “We're entering a new era of commerce, where AI agents can act on behalf of consumers, stablecoins are reshaping settlement, and digital wallets are becoming the primary interface for payments. The opportunity is significant. But much of today's infrastructure was built for a different generation of transactions. “Visa Intelligent Authorization is designed for this shift, delivering smarter decisioning across networks through a single integration. It is built for what's happening now, and what's coming next.” The company said Visa Intelligent Authorization is available to eligible acquirers as part of the Visa Acceptance Platform. "Visa adds single-API authorisation processing on Acceptance Platform" was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand.
