Talk about the golden child. Eddie Murphy on Saturday announced the arrival of his third granddaughter, and the baby’s other grandpa is fellow comedy legend Martin Lawrence. Murphy’s son Eric and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin have welcomed their daughter, Ari Skye. Murphy gushed about it at an AFI Life Achievement Award gala for him on Saturday. “I just had my first grandson ... two months ago, and I had my third granddaughter two weeks ago. And I turned 65 a month ago,” he told “Entertainment Tonight” before the event. “It’s like it’s raining blessings on me.” The “Beverly Hills Cop” legend told E! News that he wasn’t about to offer words of wisdom to the new parents, who announced their pregnancy news in February. “You don’t give advice like that,” he told the outlet. “Your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you. Stuff you be saying, they don’t even pay that no mind. They watch and see what you do.” But Ari Skye might be facing some tough expectations. When Jasmin and Eric, both actors, were dating in 2024 (they married in 2025), Murphy mused on the possibility of the two becoming parents together. “If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny,” Murphy told Gayle King on CBS in 2024. Lawrence, whose hefty credits include the sitcom “Martin” and the “Bad Boys” movie franchise, had previously celebrated the pending birth. “My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild! Watching @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 begin this journey into parenthood means everything to me,” he wrote on Instagram. “Family is everything—and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!” The two grandpas were previously united in a different kind of production, costarring as wrongfully imprisoned convicts in the 1999 dramedy “Life.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
