Trump Trashes Reports Of U.S. Munitions Shortages: 'Long Term Jail Sentences Will Be Sought!'

President Donald Trump is denying that the U.S. is running low on key munitions as his war with Iran drags on and is threatening to jail the sources of the reports that exposed the critical issue. “The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed,” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform early Thursday. Trump said the sources of the reports raising concerns about the potential U.S. vulnerability should be jailed. “The ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down. Long term jail sentences will be sought!” the president added. Earlier this week, Reuters and other outlets reported that the U.S. has nearly run out of highly accurate long-range missiles, citing unnamed sources. Reuters noted that some of those munitions have already played a crucial role in the Ukraine war, allowing Kyiv to strike targets inside Russia, and could also be key to a potential conflict with China, another major U.S. adversary. Analysts also told Reuters that while production of some munitions has indeed accelerated, supply levels could still be lower than needed for a drawn-out conflict. Trump allegedly lashed out at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David last week over the munitions shortages, claiming he was under the impression that the issue “had been fixed,” The Washington Post reported. Hegseth blamed his deputy for not keeping Trump informed, according to the Post. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed the report was false. “This B.S. story was shopped to many outlets by someone clearly out to disparage the Secretary, for whatever reason,” she wrote on X. “Unfortunately for them, the President loves the Secretary and thinks he’s doing a tremendous job.” Hegseth allegedly was an early advocate of the U.S. going to war with Iran, arguing that a potential conflict would be short, the Post said, citing multiple officials. However, after choosing to join forces with Israel to attack Iran, Trump has not been able to permanently end the conflict after more than five months. None of the objectives he set out at the start, including overthrowing Iran’s government or having Tehran end its nuclear program, have been achieved so far. Instead, the conflict has evolved into a battle over control of the Strait of Hormuz, allowing Tehran to weaponize the key waterway through which a fifth of the world’s trade oil and natural gas once flowed.
