Swing direction can be customized. It stays open all the way if it's been pushed back, and it closes on its own otherwise. This pupsicle has a fantastic design. My puppy can easily carry it to her bed, and she happily works on it for 20 minutes — I timed it. I can do 20 minutes of yoga while she's entertained with her pupsicle. Oh, and there is no leftover mushy treat and no mess to clean up afterward, and it's made of heavy-duty rubber that she can't destroy. Even though the instructions say that it is dishwasher safe, I plan to just hand-wash it so that it doesn't warp.
