Coco Michelle Illustrations is a woman-owned small business that creates coloring books that display the joy and beauty within the Black community. Promising review: "I have been following Andrea’s work for a few years and have purchased all of her self-published books. Coloring with Coco: Rest and Reflect is another beautiful addition. As a Black woman, I truly appreciate how her coloring books represent me, my family, and my friends. Each page is well thought out and meaningful. The quality of the paper is excellent, with thick pages that make coloring a relaxing and enjoyable experience. This is a book I am proud to add to my collection, and I highly recommend it." —Leslie Chapman DomoINK is a woman-owned small biz that makes decor, apparel, and gift options that represent the Black community. Get it from DomoINK on Etsy for $30 (originally $40). BLK & Bold is a small biz started by friends Pernell Cezar and Rod Johnson who had a shared love for coffee and a desire to support the youth community. Promising review: "It was a flavor adventure, what you would expect from a quality light roast but with surprisingly strong notes of chocolate and cherry." —Dani Get it from Amazon for $25.68+ (available in six flavors). Brush with the Best is a woman-owned small biz founded by Felicia Leatherwood, a celebrity hairstylist, who is known for her innovative natural hairstyles on some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Issa Rae, Ava Duvernay, Jill Scott & Nicole Ari Parker. Ok, listen Linda, Larry and Leroy — this brush, right here... IS A GAME CHANGER! I have very, VERY thick, 4C hair that was an absolute nightmare to detangle as a kid growing up. It literally broke too many brushes to count and really made me so insecure about my hair. I discovered this brush while going to a talk with the founder (who has styled Issa Rae's hair!) when I was in grad school, and got it to try it out, but didn't think much of it at first. Lemme tell you, there aren't many things that I would say I'm using for the rest of my life, but I'M USING THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I know there are cheaper duplicates out there. And I know this is pricer, but I'm telling you it's worth every penny and then some if you have thick curly hair. It's so good that I have had this brush stolen twice from me — once by my mom and once by my sister. So now I just keep two on me at all times. And it's also fantastic at detangling wigs as well, especially synthetic ones. I literally can't understand why it works so well, but I don't care. It works. It's truly life-changing, and I gift it to anyone I know who either has thick hair or has a child with thick hair. Promising review: "If you're thinking about this, GET IT!!! OMG, I have tried soooo many detangling brushes over the years that claim to help and have all failed until now! This brush is a miracle!!! It does what it says it does. As a natural curly girly, this hair makes wash day a breeze!! I love this brush 😍" —S. Baumann Get it from Amazon for $23.99 (available in three colors). Black Girl Sunscreen is a small business specializing in SPF products that work for deeper skin tones. Promising review: "The product may appear white at first, but once applied to the skin, it becomes clear, seamlessly blending in without leaving any white residue. It feels incredible on the skin and enhances the overall appearance of my makeup. I believe it adds a subtle glow to my complexion. Initially, I can sense its presence on my face, but after a few minutes, it feels weightless. As someone with oily skin, I appreciate that it doesn't contribute to excess shine or greasiness. A small amount is all you need for great results." —Stunner Jay Grace Eleyae is a woman-owned small biz that makes fashionable haircare solutions for people on the go. Promising review: "I will never wear anything else. I look so freakin cute with this on. My husband HATED that bonnet, but when I bought the slap cap to wear to bed, he was like, 'I hope you wear this all the time!' Not only is it stylish, but it also keeps my hair amazing. I have bought three so far, and I love every one of them. I was going to get my hair done the other day, and threw the slap cap on with some hair hanging down on one side. I was freaking CUUUUUUTE. I got stopped in the store about seven times with people asking me about the cap. Even the hairdresser asked me about it. I LOVE THE GRACE ELEYAE slap cap." —reader4life Get it from Amazon for $21.99 (available in black or gray). Typically, most recipes require a moderate amount of prep and cooking, but between the minimal shopping required and the beautiful pictures and straightforward, intelligent, and personality-filled recipes, I’m a huge fan of this cookbook. It’s perfect for all skill levels and all types of dietary preferences — my top three recipes so far are the yassa poisson, the berbere short ribs and the berbere bacon. I used the last one for the best BLT I’ve ever had (with turkey bacon too, which is saying something)." —Superior 77 Hot N Saucy is a small business founded by Chef Sam Davis-Allonce and is based in NYC. The McBride Sisters Wine Company is a woman-owned biz and the largest black-owned wine company in the US! There is absolutely no hint of tannin or bitterness whatsoever. This wine is fantastic, moderately priced, and is well worth not only a try but full consumption of every drop in the bottle. Partake is a woman-owned small biz founded by a mom on a mission to give her baby girl a sweet treat that was allergen-free and still tasty. So, it really irritates me the amount of hate that these cookies will get because I think people miss that they are GLUTEN-FREE. If you've ever had a gluten-free dessert, these are very much in line with what you'd expect, texture-wise, and I think they are SO GOOD. I'm not even a hard cookie fan like that (or gluten-free, for that matter), but I will eat their hard cookies any day of the week. And the soft versions... bay-beeee — truly heaven on earth. I will go to bat for these cookies 👏🏾ALL 👏🏾DAY👏🏾. Promising review: "I first saw these in the cafe when I visited my employer’s corporate office. I immediately knew I was in trouble. They’re crunchy, delicious, and not overly sweet. They have the perfect balance of flavor. I don’t require gluten-free products, but I would buy these over other mini chocolate chip cookies any day. They’re addictive!" —MMorris Get it from Amazon for $17.99 (available in soft or hard cookies, six flavors, and six variety packs).
