The Walls Are Closing In On Donald Trump (And Elon Musk)

Donald Trump is learning he can’t steal this election. Courts have halted his most egregious actions, Congress has rejected his anti-voting legislation and civil groups have stepped up to support election officials. As HuffPost’s Paul Blumenthal reports, the Trump administration has lost all 26 cases it has brought against states demanding their full, unredacted voter rolls as part of a plan to run that information through a citizenship database known for its faults. Even the SAVE Act, Trump’s Hail Mary attempt to hamper voter registration and disenfranchise married women, failed to clear a Democratic filibuster in the Senate. Trump has responded with his customary middle-of-the-night meltdowns, attacks on reporters and bizarre boasts. Elon Musk, on the other hand, has responded with money. A whole lot of it. Musk left the D.C. sphere last year after a chaotic, destructive run with DOGE. But new campaign finance reports indicate he’s single-handedly lifting a uniquely flawed Republican candidate: Ken Paxton. Musk spent $158 million backing Paxton — the largest amount a single donor has ever spent backing a non-presidential candidate in the United States. And why might that be, you ask? Well, Democrats have vowed that Musk will be their top target if they win control of Congress. The walls are closing in on both Trump and Musk — and they know it. But that won’t keep them from trying to undermine the integrity of our elections. “One thing is certain: On election night we will hear from the president from the White House spreading lies about our elections and slandering election workers as they’re busy doing their work,” David Becker, executive director of the Center for Election Innovation & Research, told HuffPost.
