Tech trillionaire Elon Musk appeared concerned on Wednesday about burgeoning calls for lawmakers to investigate him should Democrats flip the House or Senate in the upcoming midterms, reacting on social media to reports and critics with varying levels of ire.

He seemed particularly troubled by a new Politico report titled “Capitol Agenda: Dem Gavels Are Coming for Elon Musk,” on House Democrats in their purported quest to investigate Musk over his time as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE.

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote Wednesday on X while resharing the article. “Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets …”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO spearheaded DOGE under President Donald Trump in a stated effort to slash wasteful public spending, only to dismantle numerous key agencies, including the Department of Education and USAID, which administered civilian foreign aid.

Musk, whose companies receive billions in federal contracts, has also been accused of using DOGE to gut regulatory agencies that were investigating his businesses. The X owner seemed irate Wednesday at the notion, according to tech journalist Kara Swisher.

He commented on a clip of her remarks, “Sounds like Swisher really wants to go to prison.”

Swisher argued during an appearance on The Bulwark podcast “Receipts” that Musk would already be in jail if former Vice President Kamala Harris won the 2024 election, warning “if Donald Trump loses the House and the Senate, I would worry … no matter how rich he is.”

She added, “There were all these agencies, some of which he put a knife in and killed in the DOGE, many of whom were investigating him. He stopped like half a dozen investigations of his various companies. So they’re gonna start investigating again. You think he’s not on the list?”

Swisher continued, “He’s at the top of that list. Donald Trump obviously is at the top, and his family ... but Elon Musk is right up there for that ... He knows what’s coming. Like, he’s not stupid. Of all the many things you can say about him is he has a very big sense of fate.”

She concluded, “And I think it’s coming for him. And real hard.”

The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday reported that Musk last week personally ordered his network of Starlink satellites slowed in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing invasion there, and Democrats have kept an eye on his potentially unconstitutional actions at DOGE.

Musk has claimed that the military version of Starlink being used in the region is solely owned and operated by the U.S. government, and that any “limits on speed or usage” are decided by the military “and ultimately POTUS,” meaning Trump.

While it remains to be seen if the world’s richest man will face actual investigations following the midterms, Musk seemingly reacted to the Journal story Wednesday by writing on X, “Some fools still think the legacy news is real. Amazing.”

The article’s co-author, Alex Ward, responded on X, writing, “Sir, is this your comment to our story?”
